I am looking for a John McLaughlin, Belfast merchant who settled in Holywood, Co Down but I cannot locate him after 1864 -

Here is a chronology for John McLaughlin to 1864

Mentioned in the will of his father Francis McLaughlin, Belfast merchant in 1858 as exor

After Francis's death, the family firm was carried on in the High Street premises as J & J McLaughlin by John McLaughlin who lived at 8 College Square East and later at Holywood

Destructive Fire
Monday evening, a destructive fire broke out in North St Belfast on the premises of Mr John M'Loughlin tobacco & snuff manufaturer. We understand that the premises are insured to a considerable amount but not enough to cover the loss

A clue here perhaps?
Belfast Telegraph, 18 Apr.1872: ... delivered Mr. John M'Laughlin, sapper of the Hibernian Society held in that city. The name of this gentleman will be familiar to our local readers. is the eon of the late Mr. Francis M’Lairhlin, who during long period was leading merchant in the tobacco
[even with the strange text recognition looks promising)

His father was married twice firstly in 1816 and then again in 1828 -

I think John was from the first marriage so between 1817 and 1827 --

That article in the Belfast Telegraph says the said John McLaughlin was an auctioneer and commission agent at Indianapolis, Indiana -- so he had emigrated.

Said John McLaughlin actually settled in Savannah Georgia USA where he died 27 May 1903 --

Census of 1900 gave his date of birth as April 1817.
