Right, so can rule Mary Daughtrey out then. 
I discovered a marriage between a 25 year old distant cousin (another one!!) and a 64 year old widow the other day.   He died four years later and left her with three children...

Anyhow, back to the case in hand.  I feel John Joseph may be a slow burner...

It certainly has the slow burner feel, but I think John Godfrey will intrigue people, so hopefully someone will come up with a solution.
