Marriages and baptisms in Brede, Sussex Lookup

Hi there,

I am looking for the details of marriages and baptisms in Brede, Sussex


marriage 1824 James Hicks and Harriet Hutchinson - I'm hoping it will state Harriet is from Hooe?

and baptisms of their children from this date (there should be quite a few)


baptisms of children of William Leaver and Mary from 1829
there should be Mary around 1832
and William Spencer around 1835 ?

This entry is on the Sussex Marriage Index.

Marriage 13 Sep 1824 at Brede of James Hicks to Harriet Hutchinson both of this parish.  However that is only a requirement for the time of marriage so it doesn't necessarily mean that she wasn't a native of Hooe.

Hi everyone, thanks for the help!

I believe I've found the right family as Harriet Hicks is born in Hooe on the censuses.


Sarah Ann Catherine was described as a granddaughter on one census I have. I tried to look for a baptism of her on ancestry/freereg/findmypast/familysearch but haven't come across one.

I'm assuming she is either the daughter of Harriet Hicks b 1826 or Lucy Hicks b 1830 but I haven't come across any clues.

Are you also referring to the Leaver family as there is a Spencer Lever 26 living with the Hicks family in 1861.

He was in trouble with the law in 1853.

He is the son of William Leaver, Ag. Lab. and his wife Sarah.

Yes, this is the right family

Sarah Hutchinson (sister of Harriet in the previous comments) married William Leaver in 1829 in Hooe.
Her son William Spencer (seems to have gone by both names) was living with the Hicks family as you stated.
