McCormack or Hanna Brick Wall!!
« on: Thursday 10 December 20 11:07 GMT (UK) »
Been looking for marriage or death certs for William McCormack and Mary Jane Hannah. Have tried family search and Scotland's people with no sucess. They had a daughter in 1870 - Rachael, she had a son in 1897 John Joseph McCormack (my grandfather) and moved to Glasgow, I also have Rachaels death certificate. She died in the Clydebank blitz in 1941.

Rachael was married twice, once to Frame (1898) and secondly to Reid (1917). William was dead before her first marriage, and Mary Jane was dead before her second marriage.
Their address in 1870 was given as Scotch Row in Belfast. Rachael was christened in 401 Castlereagh, I assume that was a church? Williams profession was ships captain, so I don't know how long they stayed in Belfast or if they travelled.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated

Is Mary Jane recorded as Mary Jane McCormack, MS Hannah or just plain Mary Jane Hanna(h)?

Do you know if Rachael had siblings?

Who were witnesses to her marriages, may be a clue there?

Not finding a marriage for her parents on SP with any variants on both surnames.

She is listed as Mary Jane McCormack (or McCormick) ms Hannah on Rachels birth cert. Seems strange that I cant find either their marriage certificate or either of their death certs.  William died before Rachels first marriage, 1898, and Mary Jane died afer 1898 and before Rachels second marriage in 1917, as shown on Rachels marriage cert.

"Rachael was christened in 401 Castlereagh, I assume that was a church?"

Looks to be Castlereagh Road, Belfast.

Church addresses are:

St John's Orangefield, Church of Ireland, 397 Castlereagh Road, Belfast

Orangefield Presbyterian Church, 464 Castlereagh Rd, Belfast

Does the baptism name the denomination i.e. CoI or Presbyterian?

Who were the sponsors?

Thank you for that. Yes Presbyterian would fit. As far as I know Rachel was a member of the Orange Order in Glasgow. What do you mean sponsor?
