Monica, who were Thomas MacGuire' parents please, may be worth trying going in from that angle?
It's such a pity the Irish 1861/71 were destroyed.

From the Roman Catholic marriage in 1877, (marriage here https://canmore.org.uk/site/260042/glasgow-407-cumberland-street-st-francis-roman-catholic-church-friary). Thomas McGuire's parents are showing as Francis McGuire, farmer, and Mary McKean. Neither showing as deceased...but we know this is sometimes not accurate  ::)

Annie I was thinking that also if Docherty could have been the father of John McCormick
Just came across this 1911 census on a tree address Rutherglen Road
Catherine Docherty age 67
Margaret Docherty age 35 Daughter
John Docherty age 17 son ( could this be John McCormick )
James McCormick age 4 ( foster son )

Rosie,

I think it's our JJ but it's difficult to know if a Docherty was actually his father, I'm leaning towards probably not?

When he marries he uses all his mother' surnames i.e. McCorm(a)ck, Frame & Reid but not the name Docherty & doesn't name his father on his marriage.
He's being brought up as 'adopted' & 'son' so surely (now thinking about it) he'd name his father on his marriage if he was an illegitimate Docherty?

Monica...Thanks for the marriage details for Thomas McGuire.

Yes I would think that would be him  on the 1911 census ..I don't suppose we will find out who the  father was ..Don't think there is much chance finding anything on William McCormick either he could have died overseas as already mentioned

Eventually found the DC for William McCormack.
Died Sept 1876 aged 38
Washed overboard from ship, SS Midlothian, in London
His widow Mary Jane Hannah (McCormack) , came to Glasgow and married Thomas McGuire in June 1877. She was aged 38.

Still looking for William McC and Mary Jane Hannah MC, cant find it tho. Any suggestions gratefully recieved, I assume it was prior to their daughters (Rachel) birth in 1870?
