There is a Company Sergeant Major W Lane of the Royal Irish Rifles, number 13912 , record for 1918, on the Forces War Records website.

William Lane, 13912, Royal Irish Rifles, is in the WW1 pension records on ancestry
In there are papers relating to early army service

I wondered if this was a daughter's death, as that 1895 record of Kathleen's birth in India has 86th as army unit:
