Kirkintilloch Information needed
« on: Wednesday 16 December 20 15:08 GMT (UK) »
In Kerr St, at the end of a row of houses there is an old stone wall that is all that remains of a School that my family members attended from 1920 onwards. Does anyone know what was the name of this School?
Also, if you were a young 19yr old man, living in Kirkintilloch at the start of WW2, where would you have gone to sign up and which army regiment were you most likely to have been assigned to? Did you have a choice?
Any information gladly received. Thank you.

Added-
Service records for any personnel serving after 1920 are still with the MOD.
They are NOT available online anywhere!

See: https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records
There is a fee of £30, and you'll need a copy of his death certificate.
You also need his Service Number OR his date of birth.

Many Thanks. My dad and his 7 siblings, 4 boys & 4 girls in total (born between 1915 & 1928) lived in Kerr St and must be in these School photos. Their surname was Convery. They lived at 18 Kerr St in 1915 and had moved to No 3 by 1921. A School register would be very interesting to read.

In the Kirkintilloch Herald Convery there are 82 entries from 1900-1949.  It might be worth getting a monthly subscription.

A quick look I see Convery children at St. Ninian's School which is an RC school on Bellfield Rd.
