I wish people would stop saying "Christmas is cancelled"  >:( - it's not cancelled...it's just going to be different this year for everyone...not the Christmas we are all used to.

Probably not much different for a lot of people who don't normally see family at Christmas and spend it on their own  ::)

We are also in that category and usually go away for Christmas but have moved the holiday to later next year.

I feel sorry for people who have made plans but you would think they would realise by now that it's impossible to plan anything at the moment.  Rules are changing by the hour (or so it seems) and it's better to have no plan than to try to re-arrange.

I'm a bit confused by your post Rishile, if it's 'we' doesn't that mean you're not on your own?

Since my husband died I have chosen to spend Christmas on my own, it may be selfish but I rather enjoy it. Plenty to eat and drink, no one to pinch my favourite chocolates, my own choice of what to watch on TV, or nothing if I just want to read. :D

I'm rather looking forward to it, I missed Christmas last year as I was ill in hospital for several months. I didn't get my Christmas dinner until Easter.
There  have been plenty of big  family Christmases over the years, with me usually doing most of the work.

I don't understand why people were making such an issue of having a family get together over Christmas this year, it has been so obvious that it was likely to be difficult, not to say  risky. A lot of my friends had already decided to play safe and spend it alone. Time enough for big celebrations when the pandemic is over, it at least under control.

There is the telephone, Skype, FaceTime or Zoom for most people to keep in touch if they wish.

Well said, Jebber, and the Government aren't making these rules for fun.

I agree with Jebber - most of those of my age and older that I have spoken to, are saying that we have come this far, why risk it for the sake of sharing a roast dinner?

I made the decision in early November to NOT visit my family this year at Christmas.
Talked it over with my 2 daughters - one of whom works in a major hospital in Bristol.

The signs were obvious way back then.

Plus the thought of a train journey from Liverpool/Manchester/Heysham to North Somerset - where I'd probably bump into some dippy Scottish MP - filled me with horror!
And then I would have to self-isolate for 14 days.

So, Zoom it is! ;D

We were due to go to our daughter,  about 15 mins walk away ,  we are in the same tier , so we will be spending Christmas on our own now,  don't mind at all, just want everyone to be safe,  our granddaughter  is particularly sad but I told her we will do something later

Boris is trying to do his best, we have to thank the idiots who have not kept to the rules, such as a line of 7 people shopping in London  and only 1 wearing a mask,  now they have spoilt it for everyone else who has tried to do the right thing since  march

I am very annoyed to say the least
