Michael Coffee and Honora Murphy marriage 1866 Dukestown
« on: Saturday 19 December 20 20:23 GMT (UK) »
Michael Coffee and Honora Murphy were married in the Roman Catholic Church of The Immaculate Conception, Dukestown, Tredegar on 18 December 1866.  I have been told that at Roman Catholic church weddings in Wales the mother's name was recorded in the parish records as well as the father's.  Is it possible for a look up to find out their mothers' names.

Thanks,
Susan

I don't know if this is new or useful, but I have a note in my Murphy notes:
"Michael Coffee was born in Ireland about 1841-1843.  His father was Cornelius Coffee.
On 22 December 1866 he married Honora Murphy in Crickhowell.

0n 4 August 1876, 34 year old Michael Coffee was found drowned in the Monmouthshire Canal and an inquest was held in Llangibby, Pontypool."

No source noted I'm sorry.

Susan, have you try the archives as  suggested on your other thread?  The archives is probably closed at the moment but there might be a limited service by email.

On there I said that sometimes the mother’s name is shown on the church records, not always.

Gwent Family History Society have produced a CD-ROM thingy
Tredegar Roman Catholic Church (of the Immaculate Conception)
Baptisms 1852-1915, Marriages 1857-1916 (in Latin & English)

I'm not promoting it, just mentioning it! Don't know how complete the transcriptions may be.

I have seen that birth entry.  However, according to the 1851 census Honora had a younger sister Margaret and I haven't been able to find an entry in the GRO for her birth with mother's name DIGEN, although there is a DUGGAN in Abergavenny in 1849.

Going back to the 1851 census, there is a Timothy and Briget Duggar living with the Murphy's.  This could have been mis-transcribed and should be Duggan.  In which, case they could be relatives of Honora's mother Mary.
