Lyons or McVey Family photo.
« on: Sunday 20 December 20 01:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi first post. A recent DNA test has certainly sparked an interest as to my ancestors. With that this is an old family pic that came to me when my mum passed. I have no idea as to who any of these people are other than possibly my mums paternal side of the family. Either Lyons or McVey. The little girl in the bottom right-hand corner is an image of my sister as a child and the little boy to her right is also the image of a cousin. We get goosebumps looking at these!

What is the opinion of the dates of this pic? Also is there anywhere that I could post it and take a chance that someone somewhere might recognise any of these people? My apologies if this is the wrong forum. Thanks. John.

Welcome to Rootschat John.....I would say it was 1920s....maybe look for a couple who were married in that time frame. They look to be in their early 20s.

Agree with Carol & possibly early-mid decade as some of these
women are wearing the late war- early 20's style hats with others
the more modern cloche hats.

Lovely picture - similar to many of mine which were taken in very unromantic settings, like down the bottom of the garden next to the shed.  This one seems to be outside in the yard.

If it helps, I think the convention was to have the bride's family on the side of the picture nearest her (in this case on the right hand side of the photo as you look at it) and the groom's on the other side.

So the two very familiar faces of the children at the front are I think likely to be the bride's relatives.

Hope this helps!

Wow! Thank you so much for the clean and the replies. I am humbled by you all, such generosity. My sister is coming to stay on Christmas day and I cannot wait to show her.

As to the suggestion as to being a yard my mum was born in the Goebbels in Glasgow so this seems a good idea to me.

I am looking forward to exploring rootschat.
Kind regards. John.
