15 Aug 1885 Totnes Weekly Times: Agreeable to marriage: William BRIMM a gunner in the Devon Artillery Militia, stationed at Plymouth, was summoned by Grace FRENCH, a single woman, of Hood Farm, Dartington, to shew cause, etc. The Bench made an order of 1s. 9d. per week and in answer to questions, both said they were agreeable to marriage which the magistrates advised.
The Western Times carried a similar item on 14 Aug 1885, which also stated that the defendant (William BRINIM) (sic) admitted the paternity and agreed to pay 1s 9d until the child is 13.
The 1871 census shows a Wm BRIMM, aged 23, born Totnes, gunner RMA based in Stoke Damerel.
