Kenworthy/Kenart jewellers
« on: Wednesday 23 December 20 17:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I'm trying to find out when the company Kenart Jewellers began in Birmingham please. They began in Ashton-Under-Lyne in Lancs in1890's by James Kenworthy (he had 2 sons Fred and Thomas) but at some point one of the family branched out to Birmingham, basing themselves in Vyse Street.
They made brooches in the shape of animals, mainly dogs that they sold at Crufts, you can still see them for sale on ebay.
I hope someone knows something about the company please.
Many thanks
Jill Morris

Are either of the sons in Birmingham on any census or on the 1939 register?

See 1939 register - Neither son looks as though they were involved in the jewellery business

thank you for replying. Fred the youngest son b1900 is in Ashton in 1939 running the Ashton shop on Stamford St, but Thomas b 1895 I can't find in1939. He didn't die in WW1 as he's mentioned in a 1920 rate book with the mum and Fred.

Aah - Fred’s occ is not fully transcribed on Ancestry hence assumption.

Thomas was b Sept qtr 1895 & there is a Thomas Kenworthy with an 1896 birthyear on the 1939 register. I checked freebmd & there are 2 birth registrations in the Sept qtr 1896 but neither in the right area.  The Saddleworth reg died 1896 leaving only the Ormskirk birth

He is shown as a widower
