My 3xG grandfather John Duerden (Spelt Deurden in some records) was in the Royal Marines (6th Company Portsmouth Division light? infantry). He was born in 1833 in Colne, Lancashire however lied on his enlistment and said 1837.
On his service records it says he was "Invalided at Haslar hospital on 5th April 1878 for Chronic Bronchitis contracted in the service and discharged admiralty order dated 15th April 1878". I have been unable to find a death record for him. His wife Emma states she was a widow in 1881 (she was living in Colne, the hometown of her husband, with her children, even though she was from Gosport, Hampshire). All the children were born in Hampshire up until 1877.
Regards,
Pendlelad
