Has anyone subscribed to Forces War Records for service records of a relative and if so was the information you received of any use?

There are quite a few threads on rootschat about Forces War Records - it generally isn’t looked upon very favourably.

If I remember correctly it is an amalgam of information gained from free sites and as Nanny Jan said, if you are looking for WW2 service records you still need to pay your £30 and apply to the MOD.

Thanks for the feedback. I was interested to know if it would be worthwhile looking at Forces War Records. Your replies made it clear that the MOD route (which I was aware of) is the only way to go albeit "a long and winding road".

Thanks again

My uncle's record (RAF) had all his personal details, which I already knew, plus all the courses he was sent on and his postings round the country. Fascinating to read.
