1841 Census
« on: Saturday 26 December 20 19:40 GMT (UK) »
Looking for a Charles Hadden in 1841 census, Wemyss.  Died shortly afterwards and is therefore not in 1851 census.  Name could be spelt Halden and sometimes other variants.

Searching on Scotland's People for "Charles" in Wemyss in 1841 comes up with fourteen names, the only one even remotely like Hadden is a ten year old Charles Maiden. FreeCEN also gives it as Maiden.

FreeCen is showing two households with HALDANE in Wemyss in 1841. As GR2 mentioned, no obvious entry for Charles.

Tks - the Charles Halden in 1851 is my direct line, (his father James Halden is my 2x g/grandfather and was stationed in Canada when that Charles was born.)
Taking note of naming patterns in families and am hoping I can find a Charles in 1841 (who could be a sibling to 2xg/grandfather) - so will check out the Maiden family.  Very helpful, thanks all.

You might want to look on SP (scotlandspeople) to find out what 1841 censuses are missing?

I've come across people I've been researching in Fife, missing from the south east which would include Wemyss.

Kettering, Northampton:- MacKinnon

Tks - I've just checked - seems that Dysart / Wemyss are not listed as missing.  Many others are listed and alphabetically. So this is frustrating.  Name variations could be about 7 or 8 options.  Will continue looking for David 'Maiden' in 1851.

I'm confused.

If your Charles was born c 1838 how could there be another Charles in the 1841 Census?

When and where did he die and how old was he?
