William havers, Westhall
« on: Sunday 27 December 20 15:52 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone could throw some light on something here please.
According to one of the main Ancestry sites on the internet,  (Geni.com),  there is a William Havers born March 10th 1736,  Westhall,  Suffolk.  Then it says he died less than a year later.
A)  I cannot find a William Havers born on that date (there's one born on 1 Nov 1736,   and one on 10 Mar 1737 ........   which in itself doesn't make sense!!).

B)  I can find no record of a William Havers death in 1736 or 1737 anywhere?

Sorry to be possibly naive, but am I simply to assume that the person who compiled that stuff on Geni is just plain wrong??   Or have I missed some records?

Thanking any help in advance,

Paul

The record 1/11/1736 is a baptism William Havers, parents William and Mary. However I did find another baptism 29/5/1739-parents William and Mary, Westhall, and wonder if the first one died and the second one was given the same christian name, which was quite common at that time.
Regards.

Thank you for your kind reply.

Yes, I have those two Williams you mentioned,  and yes, if the first one died, that would make total sense.  But I cannot find a burial for the first one.  The person on the Geni site seems to think that he (the first William) did die before he was one year old. I cannot see where he could have got that fact from.  Maybe they just 'assumed' the first one died, to make sense of it.

Your second William shares a year of birth/baptism with a James and an Anne too (all 1739,  2 of which are in May of that year).  All very strange.  I suppose it's possible they could have been triplets!

Also, the records come up with a third William born in between the other two,  10 Mar 1737!!!!   Perhaps the people that transcribed these old records put that one as a BAPTISM,  where it should have been a BURIAL?
That then would make sense.

I may never get to the bottom of this one,  let alone find out where their parents came from!!

Kind regards,  Paul

Hi Paul,

Using the latest CD of burials from the Suffolk FHS there are only a few "Havers" buried in Westhall;
7-6-1739    Ann      Havers inf
29-9-1743 Robert        "      s/o Robert & Mary
16-3-1765 William       "      73, mole catcher
2-8-1770        "            "      s/o William & Mary
21-10-1772 Samuel     "        "         "             "
9-9-1746   Sarah         "       d/o John
12-11-1775 Mary         "       adult

Unfortunately I don't have any baptism or marriage records for this parish to help.

Wow ...  Thank you Alan.   It seems that there is a lot more info out there than my 'Find My Past' subscription bought me?!  For instance, their (what I thought was extensive) records from the National Burial Index for England and Wales doesn't even show a Samuel buried in Westhall at all??  I wonder why?            Let alone all that lovely detail like 'mole catcher'.

I didn't realise the FHS existed!   How interesting.  Can I join?

I will get to piecing some of this new information together

Once again,  Thank you so much for your time Alan

Kind regards,   Paul

If you go to their address here;
https://suffolkfhs.co.uk
and click on "Shop" you will see many CDs of baptisms & marriages arranged by Deaneries and within year ranges,  & burials that you can purchase. You don't have to join but I believe you may have to register (free) to buy their CDs.

Disclaimer; not associated with the Suffolk FHS just a happy cutomer.

I keep saying thank you,  but I really am grateful that people can be bothered to help me.  Even over Christmas lol.
Thank you again Alan, and rosie99.

I'm learning!

While I'm typing (very slowly), can I be cheeky and ask if anyone has births or burials for DENHAM, near Eye, Suffolk?

I have found an Anne 'Haver' there bapt 18 July 1776 (d. of James and Anne).
Then a burial of an Anne Havers there 21 Mar 1776.

This burial could not have been her mother (also Anne Havers), because she went on to have another child in 1778.   It looks like her mother Anne was buried in Denham 30 Apr 1791.

All the best,  Paul.
I must put this down and go and do some work lol
