Hi,
can anyone help date, identify the regiment etc in this picture? It was amongst some photo's passed to me by my father. But we have no idea who is in it or why he had it!

Hi there,

They all look very young,at least the buglers do.They are wearing puttees, which I believe were worn by troops in WW 1.
I assume, therefore, that the photo was taken between 1914 and 1918 as some poor sods were marched off to their deaths.
I'm afraid I can't help as to the identity of the regiment.

Best of luck. :)

I'd say that some of them were even too young to pass for WW1 soldiers so cadets maybe?

Hi,
thanks casalguidi & Llwyd, Like you i thought they were a bit youngish. Was it common for towns /city's to have cadet forces etc during WW1?
The shop names are English i think, but on the back are the words "Union postale universelle bussie" & "carte postale"

Maybe someone took the shots in England, and then had the film processed and printed on the continent?
I can't think of a scenario where that would be likely, but I guess it's possible.

I can offer another possibility: I have a postcard that has a similair 'air' about it (though more crowds and bunting are shown, but then it's a longer-shot), which I later discovered was of Peace Day in 1919, which the government declared to be held on 19 July 1919.

My card shows the Peace Day parade in Uttoxeter:
