I think all the BBC local stations are showing similar scenes, Lizzie. Our local news had scenes from pavement drinking at Tynemouth on Saturday night 

I'm starting to wonder if these people don't watch/listen to news progs or read newspapers so are oblivious of it all.

I'm starting to get very annoyed and despondent. Most people I know are being particularly careful and are keeping to the rules as they apply to their tier. However, we are going to be the ones who suffer when we are all put into a tighter lockdown, just because a minority can't stick to the rules and think it doesn't apply to them.

That piece from the BBC says "Fixed penalty notices have and will be issued to those blatant breaches where engagement fails," So I presume by engagement, if they go home when told, nothing will be done? I think we have now reached a stage when anyone blatantly breaking the rules should be given a hefty fine, no arguments. That might make them think twice!

I do understand your frustrations, and yes there have been reports of people crowding in to town centres and shopping centres. But to call these people out walking in the fresh air, and what I can see behaving responsibly, ie social distancing,  'moron's' is I feel, very unfair. These are families who are probably, like the rest of us feeling 'covid fatigue' and are looking after their physical and mental health. They are in the open air, not in crowded shops and therefore the risk is low. No, people shouldn't travel outside of their tier, but try and understand their situations before you condemn them to being moron's. Nobody knows what anybody is going through, mental health problems, domestic abuse etc. 9 months into this pandemic is taking its toll on everybody, and I feel the vast majority of people have done what has been asked of them and behaved responsibly.  Education has been massively disrupted, people have lost their jobs, or are worried about losing them. People are feeling isolated and are missing contact with families and friends. People with existing or new medical conditions are not getting treatment, they are doing the best they can to cope. Coping for some people is extremely difficult. My daughter is a mental health worker and says that since this pandemic mental health services have seen a 300% increase in people seeking help. People aren't 'moron's', they are just trying to get trough life the best way they can. Please have some compassion.

We have fines of up to $5000 for not obeying restrictions here in Australia..problem is people don't pay their fines. Worst offenders are backpackers on the beaches.

That link that Lizzie attached has nothing to do with people out walking in the fresh air in their local district, which is acceptable. It is people who have travelled miles, in some cases 200 miles, in crowded cars or even a minibus, to an area which, at the moment,  is relatively low in cases. That is not acceptable.

I'm not saying it's acceptable.  I'm saying it's understandable. I'm not condoning it, but I do understand the desperation some people feel.  If they are desperate to travel 200 miles to do something which may be benefical to their mental health that doesn't make them 'moron's'.

Being over 65 with a heart condition and diabetes, I have to be very careful.
But even more so with my partner who, if she was to contract covid, would very likely not survive it. She has Ms, Muscular Dystrophy, COPD and a few other conditions.
She has a carer for 45 mins a day to help her shower and that's the only outside contact for her.
Not long after covid became serious for the first time, I watched one carer sitting in her car before she came in, stuffing her face, she made no effort to clean her hands, when she came in, walked straight past the hand sanitiser and wet wipes in the lobby, took no notice of the instructions to use it before entering at all, and then, when in the same room as my partner, started coughing.
I asked her if she had a mask, she said "no, and I wouldn't wear one if I did".
Needless to say, she was escorted out and banned from the house.
Unfortunately, I've come across a few people with the opinion that covid doesn't really exist, it's a joke, and they ignore the rules.
One person i know even believes its being spread by 5G.
I'm lucky to live in a tier 2 area but I've a feeling it's not going to be for much longer.

So are you saying it's understandable that these people travel from their own locality to another locality  .... and thereby impose themselves upon that other locality ...    isn't that the very behaviour that is meant to be avoided...
.ADD ... I think those who are moving around to benefit their own mental health have little regard for anyone else's mental health.
