Nope cannot see her tree which makes it VERY strange.

I imported my tree from GED and that's when I saw the hint stars in the left hand top corner of each name!

I've never used Genes Reunited (in fact I haven't heard anyone mention it for years), so I don't know if this is feasible, but have you ever shared your tree with anyone? If you have, they could have shared it with others, who then passed it on and so on, and someone has put the whole tree on Genes Reunited. 

I've never shared a tree to be honest. I checked those that hae shared trees with me but no connections to the name on GR.

Odd that the tree has both you and your wife's side on - unless this person is related to both of you she looks like one of the dreaded Name Collectors (a term Guy says we shouldn't use). Has she tens of thousands of relatives on her tree?

Researching Scots and Irish ancestors would be no problem if you have access to the sites (for instance Scotlandspeople).

Name Collector it seems.

As I stated for this person to have the info I have on the Austrian they are related to me OR they found my info somewhere.

Crikey, I'd forgotten that I was on Genes Reunited. Haven't visited the site for donkeys years.

Just had a quick look and 23 other people have me on their tree. About 5 of them are known to me the rest are total strangers.

No, not necessarily name collectors.  Over the years by sideways addition and following all the in-laws of in-laws it is easy to get up to those numbers.

I agree with that, chempat. I have not been researching for as long as many others but over more than 20 years with going back in time and then going forwards in order to find cousins to contact, I have just over 6000 people in my tree and they are all genuine relatives. OK, some branches of my family bred like rabbits but I don't think those numbers are at all unusual. It's if you get to 50,000 (and probably have Adam and Eve in there) that things look more than a bit iffy

Going back to the original post though - if you've not shared a tree ad not posted one on GR, that is highly peculiar, not to say suspicious. Can you contact GR itself? (I have a tree on there but haven't logged in for donkey's years. Will now go and look.....)

I too have a tree with relatives in the thousands but all related to me apart from a few in-laws and such. I don't consider myself a n*** c******. It was trees in the tens of thousands and upwards that I was referring to.

In any case, you can't see the size of someones tree until they open it to you, and this lady hasn't even replied.

Point taken. Perhaps I was unclear. As long as you are 100% sure then I agree.
 
Some however just add names from other trees without bothering to verify the facts. I tried to help a friend of a friend in the USA with some research until I saw that he had the entire English, Scottish and French royal families all the way back to the ninth century in his tree. I even believe Charlemagne popped up there too. Now that's what I call n**e c********g.

I deleted my GR account as I haven't used it for years but if I remember correctly though I may be completely wrong: when viewing your tree your name is top centre of the screen. If you click underneath your name (?) you can see a list of your contacts with a number in brackets after their name. I assume that is the number of people in their tree?

One thing that disturbs me is she has both my kids names BUT I always mark them private in GEDCOM files.

I think you're thinking of the purple cogged wheel at top left of any person. That just gives you at centre all the matches you have  in other trees - will include people with the same names born the same year. My personal matches are all to people I know.

OPs children should not be shown - in my experience GR reply eventually but given the time of year....
