James George Grew - his death is on deceasedonline.com
« on: Wednesday 30 December 20 00:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi, Ancestry has linked me to a burial of James George GREW 18 May 1876 in Southwark , London on deceasedonline.com which appears to be a paid-for site. Does anyone have access and can see what they have on this person please? I believe he died 9 May 1876 in the asylum in Camberwell. Thank you

You can get credits for deceasedonline, they are on offer at the moment.

Their terms and conditions do not allow look ups for others.

ADDED He is in a grave with 13 others.

Thanks very much for letting me know about the offer. He died in an asylum so looks like it was some form of communal grave.

Deceasedonline's free search says he was buried with 13 others, so almost certainly a common grave. For that date, the possible cemeteries are Camberwell Old and Nunhead and I'm afraid the chances of finding a common grave in either, even if marked (unlikely), are slim. Parts of both cemeteries are heavily overgrown and the common grave areas at Camberwell have few gravestones and have been or are being relandscaped for new burials. DO will give you a plot number as a square and grave number. From the square number, I could tell you the state of the area. Especially at Nunhead, the graves are not consistently arranged sequentially by number, e.g. 12345 isn't necessarily anywhere near 12344 or 12346, so a plot map is needed, and this is only available from the office -- the ones DO sell only show you the squares, and maps at this level are available free elsewhere.
