Milliy and Martha
« on: Wednesday 30 December 20 06:49 GMT (UK) »
Milly (seated) born 1859 & Martha born 1869 were sisters to “Edwin in Sydney” - my last post.
The photo is in not bad condition, but would it be possible for any restoration to make Martha’s faded face a little clearer?
I am trying to make sense of the date. According to the newspapers, Tosca studio was at this Queen Street address from March 1896 to June 1900. It is odd that Martha is not wearing a wedding ring however, as she married in 1891. Both women are wearing very heavy, dark clothes – is it possible they are dressed in mourning? Milly’s teenage son, Walter died after falling from his horse in June 1897.
Thanks for your comments.

In the meantime. what type of sleeves do they have?
These are quite distinctive markers in the 1890s.

They are wearing the fashion of the era and there dresses could be any dark colour, I would suggest a date of mid-late 1890s.
