I have been checking out "Chronicling America" - https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov

Lots of items under various search keys but wondering about his involvement in -
The Sun, Aug 12 1898
AUCTION NOTICES
Sheriff's Sale - James P. Silo, Auctioneer, will sell on Saturday, Aug 6, at 10.30A.M., at Gansevoort Cold Storage Company, Washington, and Horatio sts., lot of fine butter, coffee, milkene, &c
Thomas J Dunn, Sheriff
Silas Strauss, Deputy Sheriff

Sale of recovered goods perhaps?

The same paper, 20 Sep 1897 reported the appearance of his son in court  "Charles J Dunn ........ known on the east side as Beau Brummel. ..."

Regarding remuneration -
The Sun, 30 Jan 1898
"It is a rule in Tammany politics that the responsible district leaders of the organisation, under municipal administration which Tammany Hall controls, shall be in posts of profit .......

Twenty Sixth District - Thomas J Dunn, Sheriff of the County of New York. The Sheriff is now paid in part in fees, and the office of Sheriff is computed to be "worth" to the incumbent $60,000 a year. The term of the Sheriff is two years."

Thanks. I thought it might be something juicy! But no just a speeding fine!

The "Beau Brummel" nickname is intriguing though. It sounds slightly rough no?

The other articles that you have posted Sandra - I have already. Thank you though.
