Query About Twin Births

For the purposes of registration, a time (in England/Wales) is only shown for a multiple LIVE birth .... so if one of twins is stillborn, no time should be recorded for the surviving child.

As a registrar you may know this and it's only just occurs to me to ask - in the case of cojoined twins - are there two birth certificates and if they are both born at the same time (I've seen a video of a section where the head of one was delivered, then the second head then the conjoined bodies together) which counts as elder?

My mother was a twin; her sister was registered as stillborn.
Neither certificate has a time of birth.

Unlike myself and my brother, my daughters, and my granddaughters who all have times of birth recorded. (All twins)

Just as a matter of general interest, and to point out an oddity in my family tree. My 2x great grandmother and her sister both gave birth to illegitimate babies on the 24th.  February 1849, one baby was born at home, the other in the workhouse, the time of birth is recorded on both certificates yet both were single births.

I notice that you joined RC in 2017.
The excitement of my granddaughters births was in 2013!
And there were quite a few conversations back then

I still have the certificate from Guinness World Records hanging on my wall
(Joint record holders for Most Consecutive Generations of Twins.)

Not something I ever had to deal with but there would be two birth register entries made, the same as for any twins. The time of birth for each would be whatever the doctor/midwife recorded ( the time of birth comes from the medical records, not from the informant). I would suspect they would both have the same time shown.

A few registrars, in the the early years of registration when the system was new and probably not with as clear rules as now, seem to have recorded times of birth for all/most births. Maybe because they were born on the same day they asked for the times to be shown and the registrar agreed - were they registered at the same time (with consecutive entry numbers in the register) ?
