Wha comes before 'Father' in this marriage cert?

Hi all,

Made the discovery today that my 2x great-grandfather was illegitimate. However, I may have realised this sooner had I taken a closer look at his marriage certificate. I can't work out what comes before 'father' in the entry for Andrew Craig - it reads "John Berry, general labourer (?? father)".

John Berry was not Andrew's biological father, that was the Andrew Craig his mother "subsequently" married (I'm not so sure she actually did just yet), but Andrew did take the Berry name while growing up. Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me work out what kind of father John Berry is described as, which might help me work out the family dynamic better.

For those in the know, does it mean that it's known John Berry wasn't his biological father, and was just said to be, or does the reputed mean more "we think it was actually John Berry"?

Andrew's birth certificate declares him as illegitimate, father Andrew Craig. His mother married John Berry seven years after Andrew was born, so it's not like she could have snuck that one by him.

I'm also confused why she'd then say she was subsequently married to Andrew Craig. I thought initially to hide that son Andrew was illegitimate, but putting John Berry as the reputed father gives the game away.
