Scottish Handwritting [Solved]
« on: Thursday 31 December 20 13:49 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone,

Happy New Year to all.

I have two Census that I cannot decipher

First:
1871 census:
Mary Morrison trade and place of birth.

1861 census:
James Morrison place of birth - I think it is Kilmichael Glassery.
Mary Morrison place of birth - I think it is Port Charlotte, Kilhoney.

Also this address - Could it be  12 Hearer Street?

Many thanks in advance,

The address looks like it may be 12, Weaver St.

Mary Morrison's trade --- Washerwoman.

(I am not too familiar with Scottish place names - so I will leave those to people who know!!)
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Kilmichael-Glassary is a village and a parish in Argyll.

Port Charlotte is in the parish of Kilchoman, on Islay.

I have another document that I am struggling with.

I think reads thus:
Archibald Morrison Militia man (the little word above) Baptised Blands  XXXX
Lanarkshire and Ann McCallum  XXX Glassary
child named James.

Have I got ANY of this right ?

I think it's saying he was a Militia Man Captain Bland's Corp, Lanarkshire.

Struggling with Wife's name, unless it's Bland shown after her maiden name.

It does look like Glasrie! I don't know what or where that is though.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.
