I too have an ancestor in two places at the same time.
In the 1841 census, he is in Gloucestershire with wife and six children, as an engineer.
He is also in Poplar in 1841, with wife and youngest son only, also as an engineer.
He moved around frequently. I have to suppose that the eldest son filled in the appropriate form for Gloucestershire.
Gets confusing.
