Grace Maud Carter
« on: Sunday 03 January 21 10:19 GMT (UK) »
In 1901 Grace married Edward Gilbey.
In 1911 they were living in Impington with their two children and Grace's father Peter Carter.(Wid)

In 1881 Grace is living Oakington with her parents Peter & Mary Ann and three siblings.

Grace Maud born 1880 mmn Hawkes. FindMyPast ....
her two sisters Minnie 1873 and Caroline 1876 also both have mmn Hawkes, FindMyPast

I can't find the marriage between Peter Carter and Mary Ann (Hawkes).
There is a marriage 1868 ... Peter Carter and Mary Ann Thulborn (Chesterton) !!!!

I found Mary Ann Hawkes bap 1852 Longstanton (next village to Oakington).

Can anyone help.?

Head is sister Ann, 17.
They are Storks on ancestry.

Potentially a marriage in Dec 1854, Chesterton, 3b 1087
Dickerson Thulbourn + Mary Hawks

But we have a Richard in 1861

Thanks for looking; .... from your info I found

Thomas Hawkes married Mary Williams 12 Oct 1819/20  (Willingham nr St Ives)

1841 Thomas and Mary and 7 children living Over Cambs
Jonathan Hawkes born Q3 1842 mmn Williamson
1843 Thomas died age 45
Jonathan Thomas bap 5th May 1844 Longstaton

In the 1861 census FindMyPast has Mariam transcribed as Hawkes, although the original has Thurlbourn.

So, did Mary Ann take her step fathers name when she masrried Petedr Carter?

Hi
It looks like she did.  I guess it was convenient for her to do so for the marriage!
We don't know who her father was, possibly she didn't either.
