War poem handwriting

Hi all,
When my Great Grandfather was in France during WW1, he sent home a photograph of himself with a poem written on the back. I have worked some of the poem out (it starts with saying how he'll send a photograph home as it's about the only thing he can), but this part has me really struggling. Time doesn’t seem to have been generous and the writing is now quite faded.

To me it seems to say..

… xmas cards …..
….. have changed if I may say
…… somewhat more …..
…… Somme Xmas day

Is anyone able to help with filling in the blanks?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You are usually much better than me at this kind of thing, Shaun! But I can't see the tail on the "y" of army... In previous words, the letters "g" and "y" have an enormously long tail. I must admit I saw "mood" when I first looked. But now I'm not so sure... And why is there such a big gap after the word?

I agree with Karen, I think the second word of the third line is 'mood'.
