Royal South Gloucestershire Militia -- bugle major
« on: Sunday 03 January 21 17:42 GMT (UK) »
My great-great grandfather was John Saunders or Sanders (both appear) in the 1860s and possibly earlier. I should welcome any information about the militia and the responsibilities of the bugle-major. I know that this was one of the militia's permanent posts and have seen that the band regularly played for public events in Gloucester. John came from a highly musical family in Hertfordshire: both men and women describe themselves as 'musician' in various censuses.
