Edith Sophia (pronounced so-fire)

One of the most annoying things is when people add an 'r' when it's unnecessary!

I had a school friend who was continually referred to by our 'English' English Teacher! as 'Fionar', her name being Fiona.

I always wondered how someone who couldn't pronounce a simple name properly had ever managed to become a Teacher  ???

Annie

She'd have fun at our school.  Aoifes, Niamhs, Saorsies etc.  Mind you we had a teacher who would change people's names to names she found more acceptable.  Really rude IMO.

Was your English teacher Cornish or from deepest, darkest Devon? 😅

To be honest, I don't know where she was from & I can't remember what her accent was like although I have a better knowledge of accents now but she irritated me no end.

I can still hear her over emphasised 'r'...Fionarrr!

She was a 'Mrs' Turnbull, is the surname common to Devon & Cornwall?  ;D

I've made a separate post about my two Marys:

Though, I am afraid that it is pretty long-winded, confusing, and arcane.

The Mary I am interested in married in 1706 and died in 1719, which I guess makes it pretty hard with surviving Irish records.
