Waterford Death - Cork Burial - 10 Months Apart?
« on: Monday 04 January 21 11:40 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I have known for years that my Great Great Grandfather was buried in the Family Plot in St Joseph's Cemetery Cork from the cemetery records, he was buried on November 10, 1896, he was a Miller, age listed as 61, living at Milltown Mills, Midleton, however I could never find a death cert registered for him.

Today I went on Irish Genealogy and checked the Civil Death Certs and as the family had Milling business connections to Waterford I checked for death certs there too and I think i've found him - John Roche a Miller, died in Tallow, January 03, 1896, registered in Lismore, age listed as 70+ years and has comments next to it which I can't make out. Tallow is 26km from Midleton. Death cert lists him as a widower which my ancestor John Roche was by 1896.

I can't find any other death cert for a John Roche a miller around this time anywhere near this area, Is it possible his body was reinterned from Waterford to the family plot in Cork 10 months after he died? Anyone any ideas of why his death cert and burial date are 10 months apart?

Here's the link to the death record......#57

This seems to be what's written in the margin-

In No57, Col 6 for “75 years” read “70 years”. Corrected on 17th April 1896, by me (A J Kenny?) Registrar on production of a Statutory Declaration made by Mary Shea, Occupier.

If it was my ancestor John Roche, he could not have been 70 years as he was named after an older brother John - who according to a family headstone in Midleton died in the mid 1830's, so John Roche my ancestor was born about late 1830's - which matches with his burial record which says age 61 in 1896.
