List of soldiers af Prestonpans/Culloden?
« on: Monday 04 January 21 13:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi!

Researching my husbands Scottish ancestry, I have now come far enough to the time of the Jacobite battles.

Are the lists online for soldiers on either side? Lists of prisoners?

Googling will lead you to some published lists of Jacobites, but in case you waste a lot of time searching, what makes you think your husband's ancestors were involved? What do you know about them at this period?

Hi GR2

I dont know much except dates, marriages and so on.

Several of the clan names I know fought on either government or jacobite side - some even on both. He has Kerr's, Scott's, Ferguson's and Keith's - among other surnames who could be fighting under other clan names or regiments. The Scott branch leads back to Sir William Scott, "inveterate English hater" and Bruce III.
He remembers countless trips to Culloden with his grandmother who told stories of the familys jacobite participation. So as far as tales and 6th senses go, we are covered - now its about time to get some facts :-)

Your welcome... I don't have any I'm afraid as far as I know.. couldn't get that far back on Family Tree's... closest was 1760's... or they may have just to poor to be bothered with politics..
Good luck if you do search through books though...
Regards
Markw
