Ah, now Gomer I had come across but, with it being christmas, I was distracted somewhat - If I'm right, I think he ended up disappearing on the Census returns when John was quite young!  I shall pursue him now!

Thank you so much everyone, for your replies and links - are we all thinking this Jesse/Gomer family are the most likely to be John's - its where my initial searches led - I think I may well be overcomplicating things for myself with the discovery of "Iowerth" - I shall have a good look at things now that things are back to normal - eg, Christmas over and done with lol  :)

Just for info that you probably have. The Roger H Roberts on the 1939 register is in actual fact Roger John Stanley Roberts. He passed away q3 2012.

Ah, no I wasn't aware of his full name - I had found his birth but hadn't got around to marriage or death yet - thank you!  I had a bit of a challenge with his brother too - the family said the children were Roger and Gareth - I only found a John Gareth Roberts with the correct maiden surname, (Evans)!  Thank you for this info as I have to admit, it was driving me mad what the initials stood for!  Now I'm doubting if I have found the correct brother lol - would he really be called John Gareth if his brother already had the name in his? I guess there is no law lol - John was Bessie's father.

Sorry Osprey, I didn't see this yesterday!  Thank you so much for all the info, I am working my way through it all (when I'm not trying to play teacher with 3 kids who think lockdown and no school = doing what they want)  :)
