Ffyske/Fiske/Fisk
« on: Monday 04 January 21 20:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

My 8th Great Grandmother is Mary Fiske b. 1640 in Huntingfield Suffolk.  Married to my 8th Great Grandfather,  John Sparham b. 1645 in the same place as Mary.

I am trying to find Mary's parents.  I have a long line Great Grandparents with Fiske  being spelt as Ffyske.  I have looked for Mary under the various spellings of this surname to no avail.

I would be so grateful if someone would throw some light on this

Thank you

Boyd's index shows that Mary Fisk married John Sparham at Huntingfield in 1659. It would be advisable to check the original parish register in case she is recorded as a widow.

Looking at the Ship-Money Returns of 1640 and the 1642 grant assessments, I see no members of the Fisk(e) family at Huntingfield but several in nearby parishes, e.g. Wenhaston, where Richard Sparram (1640) and Thomas Sparham (1642) are also listed.

If Mary's baptism cannot be found at Huntingfield, perhaps it took place at Wenhaston, which has no surviving registers earlier than 1687.

Property at Wenhaston is mentioned in the will of yeoman John Fiske of Southwold (PCC 1648).

This is the definitive Fiske etc web site http://www.fisk-fiskefamilyassociation.com/sources.html I also have Fisk and Sparham.
John Sparham in Framlingham 1770, his grandaughter daughter Susannah married John Bridges in Fram in 1789.
