something else about familysearch maps, you can search for a civil registration district and a "what would you like to do" pop-up overlaying the map gives options, such as "list all parishes in xxx registration district".  I've recently discovered this feature and have been using it to identify likely parishes for some of my Essex forebears.

Note that the reg dist has to have been in existence on whatever date the map is supposed to be from so, for instance, Orsett works but Thurrock doesn't.

I knew I'd seen 1851 somewhere but couldn't see it for looking!

For details of boundaries, including registration districts, around 1851, you can use the map at FamilySearch ...

https://www.familysearch.org/mapp/
As a map, that shows parishes and counties - the other information (District, Hundred, Deanery etc) is textual, not geographic.

Please look again. Search on the place name, and select the appropriate one from the list offered. Then on the map you can use the Jurisdictions tab to show the registration district and to list contiguous registration districts (shown in red).

I would call that 'geographic' rather than 'textual'. I have used this map for such searches over many years.

I hadn't clicked (or spotted) the top-centre map selector.  :-[

Thank you.
