Applied for Army WW2 records ages ago .....how long does it take them?

Hi, I applied for my relative’s ATS records from the Army two months ago. Silence in return. Cheque not cashed. Does anyone know how long it is currently taking, and also does anyone have a phone number for them please?

WHAT?!!!! Blimey It can’t be that difficult. Even the forms are old fashioned, and the fact you can’t do it online, only by post. And I had to get my chequebook out for the first time in years. They really need dragging into the 21st century!

Apparently they are taking quite a while at the moment, another poster requested some in June 2020 and is still waiting. 

Priority is given to living service personnel who want their records and the widower/widows of those who served.

Their primary responsibility is to serving  personnel, then veterans. Family History research is not a  priority.

You also have to remember that Covid 19 also has caused staff shortages and had a dramatic effect services. You may have a very long wait, it can be up to a year.

I was lucky when I ordered my parents records a few years ago it was just a few weeks wait but my mother was still living and the request was in her name.  13 months is dreadful.

On another forum, people are saying about 9 months to a year at the moment. Some have had their cheques returned as they are out of date and have been asked to reissue them. Why do they insist on cheques these days, far better if they did it by card and didn't present it for the money until the records were available.

Cards could be out of date or renewed by the time the order comes round too.
