Frederick MOORE born 1842
« on: Tuesday 05 January 21 22:44 GMT (UK) »
Frederick MOORE was born 1842, birth registered June qtr Warwick Union, mmn COPELAND.

Parents believed to be Thomas MOORE and Sarah COPELAND.

Possible siblings all with mmn COPELAND
Henry 1837
Sarah Ann 1839
Thomas 1844 Sleaford Lincs
Mary Ann 1846 Sleaford Lincs

Can't seem to find any of them on census anywhere apart from 1841 when I think it is them at Milverton.

Hoping some fresh eyes can assist.

Thanks.

Is Frederick your ancestor?  If so - what do you know about him

The Lincolnshire births could belong to the 1843 marriage in Sleaford which has a Michael Moore & Mary Copeland on the same page

Father was actually (as stated at marriage 5/8/1821 Tamworth, Staffordshire) was actually Thomas Guy Moore.

In 1851 he and young Frederick are in the poor house at Lichfield, Staffordshire - he is described as a Gentleman's servant and married (his wife Sarah Moore (married) is with her mother Sarah Copeland 80, both shown as visitors with a William and Elizabeth Green also in Lichfield) - he's shown as bc.1788 Witherley, Leicestershire although appears to be 4 years younger than that:

Thomas Guy Moore (second name transcribed as Georg but looking at copy of original page it is clearly Guy not Georg), bp.10/6/1792 Witherley, Leicestershire, son of Wm. and Mary.

His wife Sarah Copeland was baptised 27/11/1803 Lichfield, Staffordshire, dau. of Charles and Sarah.

In 1861 - transcribed as Moor - Sarah and sons Arthur and Henry are living in Walsall, Staffordshire.  She is a widow.

In 1871 Sarah Moore is living with her widowed son Charles in Wolverley, Worcestershire as well as unmarried sons Arthur and Henry.   (Charles is in Wolverley in 1861 as More).

So, Thomas Guy Moore died between 1851 and 1861 (possibly 1859 Lichfield).

How have you identified this Frederick -

"..Frederick was later in the army in India. Came to NZ in mid 1880s. Married Diana Maria JENNINGS in India."

to be born of MOORE - COPELAND family that you are seeing on the Census?

NZ death certificates have parents names. On Frederick's his parents are named as Thomas MOORE and Sarah COPELAND. He died 23 Oct 1901 aged 59 so the birth in 1842 fits.

Have also found baptisms of some of the children from 1841 census, where Thomas' occupation is Waiter or Servant.

Frederick's marriage record in India names his father as Thomas.

Annette

Thanks very much that fills in quite a few gaps. It would appear that the son Charles also had the second name of Guy.

If Thomas and Sarah were married in 1821 there must have been other children between then and 1829 when Charles was born.
