Parents Charles + Margaret Irvin
abode Milbourn Place
father a Sawyer

In 1851 Charles Irvin, 30, sawyer, born Sunderland, and wife Margaret are at 3 Middle Street, North Shields
piece 2409 folio 329 page 34
No William but have other children.

Next page, and at number 4 Middle Street, are Elizabeth Irvine, 21, Seaman's Wife, and two young daughters. Our John's family?

Is that age for Charles right?
Births of children have mother as Clark.
Marriage might be Charles Irvin + Margaret Clark, 24 June 1837, Wallsend

Very frustrating. It is the last marriage at Wallsend before civil registration begins, with the new style marriage registers. And, unusually for the north east, Wallsend are sending in BTs for those. See next image!

I've really struggled with the census lately, every family I want to find are mangled transcriptions.

With this lot all I ever managed to work out was from the 1848 marriage so John born anytime from 1828 or earlier and his father being called John.  I'd ignored the witness.

There's something odd with the marriage though as the GRO cert shows Elizabeth Boag and the register (the pre 1837 style even though it's 1848) is Elizabeth Reay.
Always looking for the Goulson surname in the UK, Europe and USA.

think that may be a copy written up later, possibly the BT. It's the pre civil registration style.

Same date, same place, same groom

At this time the parish church at Tynemouth was keeping its parish registers in the 'old style'
However if you were to purchase the certificate from the GRO you would find it in the usual post 1837 format.
