William Tyler
« on: Wednesday 06 January 21 18:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I seem to have come to a halt trying to trace the father of my Great Great Great Great Grandfather - William Tyler, Born 1759-1761 in Great Maplestead Essex and died in April 1847.

I've traced other branches of the family back to 1510, but seem completely stuck.

There was a thread a few years ago trying to achieve the same, and speculation about paternal links to an Abraham Tyler/Isaac Tyler and another William Tyler from 1713 but cannot find proof.

Did anyone get any joy with this? Or can anyone offer advice?

THanks

Chris Tyler

There are almost 130 trees on Ancestry of William Tyler.

One of them might be able to help you.

William Tyler was bp.28/10/1759 Great Maplestead (see FreeReg) - however, no parents first names have been shown in original parish record so really no-one can help you here.

Those trees that do show a father (most don't) have opted for Abraham but I personally doubt that as there is no Abraham and wife baptising any children there 20 years either side of 1759.

I'd personally - if I had to choose - go for Isaac and wife Mary who had 4 daughters baptised 1752 to 1758 since William named his first son Isaac in 1785.

Alas, there is no way to have concrete proof of his parents when they are not shown by their christian names in the original parish record.

Many thanks

Someone mentioned a while ago that the Parish Records were all written neatly in the same pen and might have been copied from original notes. Is it worth contacting the church directly?

Also, if I start from Abraham or Isaac and work towards the current time, are there any records which might show their children?

Thanks again

The Church won't hold any historic records.  The Essex Record Office is your best bet if not there then the National Archives.

I have a oodles of Tylers on my maternal side and when I couldn't prove beyond a doubt who his parents were it stopped there.
