Willliam Edward Hilliard
« on: Wednesday 06 January 21 20:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm researching William Edward Hilliard born 1802 in Writtle Essex. Married Susannah Holyoak born 1803 in Leicestershire. His parents were Richard Hilliard and Charlotte King. According to records I've found and information on other family trees he is said to have died in 1871 in Sydney Australia. However the Australian Death Record has his parents names as Henry and Catherine.

Obviously there's an anomaly here. I can't find him in the 1841 or 1851 census for England or in passenger lists arriving in Australia. Furthermore his wife died in 1882 in St.Neots Huntingdonshire. I can't really imagine him leaving his wife to emigrate to Australia unless of course he was deported for some reason.

Any suggestions as to where I could extend my search? Any hints or tips would be welcome.

Thanks
Glyn

There is no death in Hunts in 1882 for Susa* Hilliard - where did you get that information?

How do you know he was born in Essex if you can't find him on an English census?

How do you know when & where Susanna was born - if she died in 1882 she should be on the 1881 census?

Where & when was their marriage?

Where did you get your birth & marriage info from?

Are you descended from one of their children?  If so - please give details

I'm researching for a friend. Information on their births and deaths is from other family trees and information from the person I'm helping. Information on his marriage to Susannah Holyoake is from England, selected marriages on Ancestry though the date there is 5 April and as you said John in Tardebigg

Susanna Britten's son did well for himself

Thanks Mabel. I was about to post about his son Thomas Holyoake Hilliard in India but you beat me to it. I also have the transcript of Thomas's baptism. It's his parents William and Susannah who are causing headaches. The person I'm researching for is Thomas's great great grandson
