Army Casualty List - Can i find more details on injuries??
« on: Thursday 07 January 21 21:49 GMT (UK) »
My Great grandfather (Frederick William Best L/12944) was with the 3rd batallion - Royal Fusiliers in WWI.
He was on the Army Casualty Lists on 24th April 1915 (2nd battle of Ypres?) and again on 15th October (Battle od Loos?). He was then pensioned out of the army after 2nd wound.
Is there anywhere where I can find out any more detail on the types of wounds he recieved? Gas? Trenchfoot? Shrapenel? bullet wound???

Many thanks for any help in advance,

David

I fear the answer is no.  There doesn't appear to be a pension record for him which may have had the answer about the discharge cause.  His service record has not survived, this may have had a clue.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

The only other thing you could try is to look for any newspaper report, although they just tend to say "wounded".

Forces War Record (minimum details)
Rank - Lance Corporal; under Incident Details simply states "Wounds". Service from date 20 Sep 1907; Service to date 4 Jan 1916; discharged under King's Regs "392 (xvi) No longer physically fit for war service".

Many thanks guys for your help.
It really is appreciated.
Especially those who looked into service record etc.
Its frustrating his service record didnt survive, but one of many destroyed, i know.

Is there anything i can look at wrt pesions? He was pensioned out, but i cant seem to find any information. Again a dead end.
I thnk ive probably got as much info as im going to get though.

Thanks again

found this on Forces War Records but need sub. to look for details can anyone help please.
I know that he was in 2nd General Hospital, Havre and then sailed on Lanfrance from Havre 18/9/16 arrriving Southampton 19/9/16
I am trying to find out what hospital he was in and what his wounds were. (perhaps Netley)
I then found him again in Convalesence hospital at Ampton Hall, Suffolk, beford being honourably discharged.

Thank you
