Thank you - all of you - very much for your assistance.
I shall revise my estimation of Samuel Vallant, downwards. His most welcome contribution to business was his accounting book with the natty title "Discount simplified, or, A method of determining the exact proportions between the nominal and real prices of goods at any of the usual rates of discount, exhibited at one view and to be worked in General by a single figure." Published with the assistance of subscribers, including his brother-in-law, Edwin Withers, in 1839. A copy is available on Google ebooks.
Some light reading whilst in lockdown, perhaps?

Perhaps not.

Thank you again
