I find this person initially in the 1881 census as Charles A Fitzgerald, a visitor (on his own) with my 2nd great uncle and his wife James Austin & Ellen Willcocks (RG11; Piece: 707; Folio: 87; Page: 30) as a 6 year old scholar with, I think a birthplace of Surrey, Pulboro (Ellen Willcocks has a birthplace of Surrey, Boro in this census).
By 1891 (RG12; Piece: 497; Folio: 67; Page: 58) he is still with James & Ellen Austin as Charles E Austin, their 16 year old son and similarly in 1901 (RG13; Piece: 524; Folio: 138; Page: 55 both times noted with a birthplace of Pulborough initially in Sussex and subsequently in Essex.
By 1911 he is making his own way in the world with a wife and daughter with a birthplace of Pulborough, Sussex and I have all the info I need from then on.
I think I have him living at 200 Adelaide Avenue, Lewisham as a retired despatch clerk in a household on his own with a birthdate of 27 Dec 1874 on the 1939 register.
What I am really trying to find is where he came from? I can't find a birth registration or baptism for him. The fact that he is noted as a Fitzgerald in 1881 is interesting in that James' Austin's elder brother William Austin had married in Jun 1890 to widow Charlotte Fitzgerald (née Mason) who had several Fitzgerald sons from her Oct 1871 marriage to Robert Fitzgerald. Could he be anything to do with this?
If anybody could please help find either a registration or a baptism for Charles this would clarify matters.
