I am not a criminal, I am not an expert, but    .... in general terms, transportation to the then colony of

A) New South Wales  effectively ceased 1840.  (NSW at that time included today's eastern states of Queensland, NSW, Victoria plus the Aust. Capital Territory, Northern Territory, Norfolk Island and ... New Zealand).   
and
B) Tasmania ...effectively ceased convictism mid 1850s when Queen Victoria signed of on  Van Diemans Land 's written constitutional document.

If you were to start a thread on the Australia Board asking your question I am sure there will be plenty of people able to follow up.

You'll find the original pardon (from HO 17, with signatures) is on FindMyPast, in the database England & Wales, Crime, Prisons & Punishment, 1770-1935.

But before he was pardoned he experienced life on board the hulks:

George Preedy was received on board the "York" prison hulk, moored at Gosport, on 3rd May 1839.  He was transferred to Plymouth on 10th Jan 1840 (Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849, on A******y).

Morning all,

We had a slight smattering of snow over night (about 1 mm and looks more like frost) so off to my local cemetery for a few photos. This is my first chance of a look at the replies (I keep a tab open all the time with one line thread of mine on it to refer to even when I am not doing FH).
