GRO England- Marriages
« on: Sunday 10 January 21 13:46 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy PDF Marriage Certificates from the GRO in England ? I can do it for birth certificates but I can't seem to find an option to do it for marriage certificates.

If it can't be done, does anyone know why this is ?

Thankyou kindly in advance.

Can't be done!
They haven't transcribed the marriage indexes yet.
And, obviously due to the pandemic, there will be no timeline as to when this facility will be available.

I'm fortunate that one of my big areas of research has quite a few of the original registers scanned into FindMyPast so it's possible to download the images but the coverage doesn't cover the entire county and nor does it cover all the years.

I prefer them over GRO certs as they are the original item unlike the GRO item which is a transcription, if I can find the marriage venue then that particular county does supply copies of the original register scanned onto a blank certificate via their registrar service. Generally quicker than GRO in non covid times too but as I said at the start I'm fortunate my family are from that part of the country.
