Hi there

I have tried to work out what the crime is for Francis Pratt and can't.  There are some very odd things that my brain is seeing (e.g. hand laughter) but maybe they are what I read them as. Francis' crime is circled in green and then there's the Gaoler's report findings (sent to VD land .  Thanks very much

Oh my, haha, that's so simple and yet I couldn't see it.  All I could see was the capital 'K' (king) thank you so much!

For info there is a report about his trial in the Leicester Herald 24 March 1838 - he and his accomplice stole 3 silver spoons, pair of sugar bowls, a punch ladle , 1 bottle brandy, 20 shillings in silver and other articles - guilty 10 years transportation (to Tasmania).

There are also pieces in the Leicester Chronicle 24 March 1838 and Nottingham Review 24 March 1838. The most comprehensive  article of all is in the Leicestershire Mercury 24 March 1838 as it quotes witnesses etc in some detail.

Do you know if it mentions a middle name for him at all?  I will check the article from my computer later as it will be easier to read. 

I am unsure if this is the same Francis married to Elizabeth Maxfield.  If so, his middle name is William.

Re the Leicestershire Mercury article, and the others mentioned, you need to access them via The British Newspaper Archive, which is also available on FindMyPast. I believe that when you register for the British Newspaper Archive you are given 3 free articles. If you do a free search for Francis Pratt in March 1838 in Leicestershire you should be able to find the articles identified.
