William EVANS b.1875 Hope, Flintshire
« on: Monday 11 January 21 16:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
It is several years since researching the above person but in picking this up again recently I notice that there are in fact two possible references to a person who could be him in the 1881 and 1891 census.  In both cases the William Evans is listed as born in Hope, Flintshire. One possible family is with a Richard and Hannah Evans where he is born 1877 (1891 Hannah is replaced with a Jane), and the other family is Evan and Eliza Evans, where he is born Hope, Flintshire.  ( In the 1901 and 1911 I have my family member married to Florence and residing in Summerhill, Wrexham.)

I originally went with Evan and Eliza but I see someone on Ancestry has chosen Richard and Hannah.  How can I be sure which is the right family?  I would value comments from others.  Thank you.

Have you bought a copy of his marriage cert to establish his fathers name?

Thanks for responding so quickly. No, I hadn’t thought I needed to, as I thought I had ‘found’ him his family. Maybe acted in haste, as the date and birthplace fitted. Is there any other way of finding his father, other than purchasing a marriage certificate?

I confess I did order a marriage certificate (I'd filed it with Florence Jones' family and have just found it).  And this confirms that William's father was indeed Evan Evans, a collier.  Thank you Carole for suggesting the marriage certificate as it made me go and check thoroughly through my files.  It was ten years ago since I ordered it and I'd forgotten!

So you now know you were researching the right family 😀  Might be an idea to contact the other tree owner to put them in the picture

You are welcome  :)

There are some baptisms for children of Evan Evans & Eliza on Anc*y Flintshire, Wales, Anglican Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1994 but I couldn't see one for their son William

Anne b1868 & Sarah Evans b1870 appear to be the first children of Evan & Eliza they can be found on 1871 census piece 3737 folio 55 page 21
