Reverend Thomas Sayers of Roxwell, Essex
« on: Tuesday 12 January 21 10:03 GMT (UK) »
I have come across the PCC will of 1850 of Rev Thomas Sayers of Roxwell, Essex and am trying to find out more about him. Pity he didn’t wait ‘til after the 1851 Census before meeting his maker. I’m wondering if he was maybe related to Sayers who were found all round this area of Essex close to Chelmsford. I don’t seem to see him in the 1841 Census. Intriguingly he seems to have owned property in Jamaica, so maybe was over there at some point? Of course he may be unrelated to people of the same name in the area, but I’d like to rule him out if so. (Seems a bit far up the social scale for the usual Sayers round here ;D)

I'm assuming you haven't obtained his death certificate, which may give a clue via the informant's name.  GRO indicate that he was aged 59.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

His will leaves everything to his wife Maria. There is a baptism for a possible son, Thomas Frederick Sayers 26 March 1819 at  Ashby with Oby and Thorne , son of Thomas Sayers, Clerk, and Maria , baptised by Thomas Sayers , Curate.

There is an entry for this Thomas Sayers here :

https://theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp/search/index.jsp

and from  Cambridge Alumni :

Thomas Sayers adm. Caius 1807 , eldest son of James of Great Yarmouth , ordained Deacon Worcester 1813 ; Priest 1814 , married Maria , daughter of Thomas Burton.
