Hi I’m hoping someone will have access to ww1 service records for a relative of mine. James Esson Ewen born 1894 served with the 1st battalion Gordon Highlanders army number 3/5915

Can t find any obvious records other than he appears to have died in December 1914.

They are available on Ancestry, slightly damaged but readable, he came from Strachan if they are correct.

Hi,
There are 15 images according to Ancestry but six of the pages are duplicated so 9 pages of I would say good information considering he died so early in the war.
Might be worth a free Ancestry trial? as long as you cancel before time is up.

The name in the army file is consistently Ewan, not Ewen
