Any suggestions please
« on: Tuesday 12 January 21 19:12 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find where a relative served in WWll, he was born in October 1922 so only 17 but not in the 1939 register, only his parents and grannie at home in Wembley. He died in 1976 so should be on view if not in the forces. After the war he is at home as a service voter in the electoral roll and he was later a clerk and rented a flat in Bloomsbury. I wondered if he was a civil servant? He never married, was an only child and his funeral was arranged by the landlord of his local pub. I contacted a former neighbour who remembered he wasn't always there but not where he went or what service he was in, I thought maybe the RAF would take 17 year old with parents permission? but really no clue.  Thank you

Thought so but also thought another pair of eyes?
He was Donald Campbell born 18/10/22 his parents Herbert and Alice were at 17 Maybank Ave  Wembley . Maybe he might show up later if he was at a school somewhere?
Thank you

He appears to have been an only child.  Parents married 1916 Oldham - mmn was Collin and he is the only birth entry

You are right Carole, they left Oldham for Wembley and retired to Essex and Donald lived and worked in London and went home at weekends, just can't find out what he did in the war  I am told he had a military bearing so probably did service somewhere

If he is listed as a service voter in the ER then he would have been in the services; some boys were a little 'forgetful' about their age when enlisting.  ;)

I have found that the ER is not always true, he is still at Maybank Avenue in 1962 but his family had moved in 1957 and the people who lived there tell me they never had anybody living with them!
